World Vision Micro

Body Glue actively supports international Micro-Financing initiatives through World Vision Micro.

When you buy from Body Glue you are also supporting a person who is looking to start a small business in a developing world with a Micro-Financing Loan.

Micro Financing is a source of financial services for entrepreneurs and small businesses lacking access to normal banking and related services.

Currently we donate 5% of our monthly income to ‘World Vision Micro’ as we believe giving a hand-up will be more beneficial in the long run than just a hand-out.

Our family feels extremely lucky to be born and live in a free and prosperous country, where we live comfortably and have enough to support our three children.

By default of living in Australia, we already live in the world’s wealthiest countries measured by per capita wealth, which is amazing to comprehend.

Body Glue’s Involvement

Knowing this, it was important to our family to try and do something for others who have significantly less, and who are working hard each day to support their own family.

We decided on this type of program as it resonated with us being a small business ourselves, and it appeared to be a better method of breaking (or at least putting a good dent) in the poverty cycle than just providing aid handouts.

If you want to find out more information about World Vision Micro visit their website, or if you have any questions about Body Glue’s involvement, drop us a message and we’ll do our best to answer them.

Thank you for joining with our family and helping with this endeavour!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Micro Loan

A Micro Loan is the crowdfunding style lending of small amounts of money and/or business support services to entrepreneurs who don’t have access to traditional banks. This model encourages a move toward economic self-sufficiency rather than being solely reliant on aid handouts.

The entrepreneurs who receive the money are charged a small amount of interest much like a standard loan, and in nearly 99% of cases they successfully repay the monies lent to them.

The repaid money is then re-lent to another entrepreneur, creating an ever growing pool of resources to help more and more people in need.

Interesting Fact: 72% of people receiving the micro loans are female. This enables them to access health care, buy nutritious food for their children, send their children to school, and improve their family’s living conditions.

Is this a new concept?

No, apparently the World Vision Micro group have been providing small loans since 1993 and have distributed funds and support services in over 40 countries that has had an impact on over 1 million jobs in the last year alone.

Unfortunately we am just late comers who wishes we had know about it sooner!

Which countries are involved in the project?

Currently World Vision Micro says they work within the following countries: Armenia, Bolivia, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Philippines, Rwanda and Tanzania.

Do you bump up the cost of your products to compensate for the donation?

No absolutely not. It is important to us that this comes from my our family, so the money is taken from our standard profits.

We include information about Body Glue’s involvement in the micro loans to let our customers know that they too are helping in this great cause and importantly to raise awareness about the micro-finance initiative.

Who knows some of you may want to participate directly also 🙂
